PLVC tryout attendance policy:
PLVC is managed by a group of parents who have or have had children who participated in club volleyball. We recognize the challenges that the Gateway Region tryout process brings. As such we try to be as flexible as possible.
Attendance at a PLVC tryout is mandatory to be considered for a PLVC team. We understand that there are conflicts between tryouts. Our coaches participate in our entire tryout day so if your player in unable to participate during the time that their age tryout is being held, your player can attend a different age tryout. We do ask that you coordinate with the club director or the team coach to ensure the coaches availability to watch your player's tryout.
Late arrival / early departure - We do regonize that there are going to be overlaps between tryouts. PLVC does not discriminate for players arriving late of leaving early. However, it should be recognized that your player will need to attend the majority of the tryout so that the coach can evaluate your player's performance.
If you are arriving late we suggesat that you print out the PLVC tryout registration form and Gateway Region waiver form (located above) and have them completed prior to arrival. This will speed your players registration process and get them on the court as quickly as possible.
If your player is departing early we do ask that your player inform the coach that they are leaving.
Should you have any questions concerning the PLVC policy please contact the club director or any coach.
After Tryouts:
Tryout weekend is over, now what?
If your player has received an offer from a club for a position on a team your player will have 3 choices that they can make. Here are their choices:
(1) Accept the offer and commit to the club, your player will have until 7:00pm Monday night immediately after tryout weekend to make this decision. After 7:00pm if your player has not contacted the coach, the coach is free to offer your player’s position to another player. Before your player makes this commitment be absolutely sure this is the offer you want to accept. If you accept and then retract your acceptance this will cause the coaches a great deal of work. Once you accept the coach is probably calling his alternate players telling them that the position has been filled.
(2) Your player can tell the coach your player wants to think about the offer. Your player will have until 7:00pm Monday night immediately after tryout weekend to make this decision. After 7:00pm if you have not contacted the coach, the coach is free to offer your position to another player.
(3) Your player can tell the coach “No thank you”, once you have made this decision the coach will be offering the position to another player.
If you have been told that you are an alternate, you are in a wait and see position. The alternate position is one that your player does not have a firm offer from the team, but that your player is going to be the first, second, third player that the coach will call if a player who has been offered a position decides to play for another team. If the coach's call to offer your player a position comes before 7:00 pm Monday, your player has the same choices as above.
If your player has not been offered a position or been notified that they are an alternate, just wait until Monday evening. Once players start making their decisions coaches are often looking at their list of players who attended the tryouts and making offers into Monday night.
Its Tuesday evening and your players has not heard from a team, and if your player has a very strong desire to play, place an add on the Gateway web site as a player looking for a team. There are teams that will be looking for players as the season gets started. Continue to check the Gateway website for tryouts. Several teams will have a second tryout or new team will be formed.
